A few years ago when I was working on a bunch of different higher profile launches, I made a huge realization…there were some specific things people at all levels of business were doing.

At least outwardly.

No secrets.

Nothing extra fancy.

Just straight forward stuff really.

So, it’s easy to see how you might follow what you see and think - wow, I did exactly everything the same I did NOT get the same results. Yikes, what happened??

Well, today, I’m going to share some of those things that set big launches apart from ones that fall apart or fail.

Before we do that though - I think it’s important to say that failure comes in different forms. Your win is another person’s failure. Another person who thinks they had a stinky launch - you’d settle for ANY OLE DAY OF THE WEEK.

Today’s Episode:

 

Over the next couple of weeks I’m going to do a series about some of the simplest ways to have better launches. We all want to have those breakout launches, but these happen after having a series of better launches. These next couple of episodes are for those new to launching, but not new to online business. These episodes are also for those of you who may be tired and disillusioned, but still ready to dig in and really figure out what is going on.

 

This episode probably isn’t for those who have been launching for years who have done it all and seen it all. You probably won’t discover a shiny new tactic. Although, it doesn’t hurt to get back to basics. If you are just starting out and don’t have a business yet, then there are better training programs to get you started. By the end of these three episodes, you should have a complete picture of what it takes to have a successful launch at any stage of your business.

 

If you have the openness to go back, ask questions, and dig in you are someone who will have longevity. It’s time to take the same steps that people years ahead of you are taking. When it comes to taking online courses what should sway you are your behavior, beliefs, and ability to take action. It takes a mix of compassion, intuition, and practical know how to make someone an effective teacher and guide. Over the next few episodes, I commit to giving you launch insights that you will not normally get from other programs.

 

Today, we are going to talk about three ways we are killing our launch progress before it even starts and a few key shifts that could change everything. In the next episode, we will talk about the truth of having a profitable launch and avoiding those bad launches. Then, I’m going to share the five invisible but powerful steps that often get overlooked when we follow someone else’s done for you system or just copy someone else’s method.

[12:45] Three ways we unintentionally kill our progress are self-talk, bumpers, and starting earlier. 
[13:07] Self-talk. Do you ever find yourself saying that this isn't really a real launch? How you talk about your launch will have an impact on your launch.
[13:49] Turn it around and talk positively about your launch and share your excitement. Put passion behind it, because if you say it isn't a real launch, it won't be. 
[15:32] Creating bumpers. Bumpers are things that give you stability. You can't ramp up your launch in one day. You have to adjust and go into launch training mode.
[16:41] Find the regular ritual activities that will impact your launch. You have to understand where you need to show up to talk to your audience. 
[17:00] Having a virtual assistant or a podcast editor is a bumper because they are waiting for you to give them stuff. Slowly but surely, think what your stamina is and what you can actually do. Give yourself exercises to build your stamina.
[17:57] Building your launch stamina also helps build your audience stamina.

[18:17] Rushing. When you rush around it seems like something is wrong. By starting earlier we improve our decision making ability. 
[19:58] Being stressed out your decision making is not so great. Make creative decisions way before the launch.
[20:27] You have to have an outline or a sketch of what you are doing. You can create during this time, but straight up decision making can be tough.
[21:19] If you have an idea for a launch, write it all out as much as you can. Get it all out while your brain is on charge.

Today’s episode is inspired by an interview I watched with Danny Meyer, a NYC based entrepreneur.  He’s known for his fine dining experiences as well as his popular Shake Shacks.

I’m paraphrasing but he spoke about giving people an amazing experience. The “easiest” way to do that is to figure out what they need to feel good. To feel important.

“Everyone walks in with a sign around their neck saying — make me feel important.”

Of course, there isn’t just one way to make people feel important.

As we’re building our businesses, we start to see what our peeps like and don’t like. On a universal level, people need, want and like two things - to felt heard and to feel important.

Today we talk about some of the ways we can make our soon to be customers, our past customers, and maybe even ourselves feel more important.

So I ask you today on this very very short episode of the podcast….

When you first start your business, you’re doing everything alone, so it goes without saying that you have to learn how to launch alone at the very early stages.

And that means you’re learning what to do, how to do it and trying to figure out WHEN to do it…
 
This can be fun for a period of time when you’re getting your feet wet, figuring out what your business is, who you serve, and what ideas get brought to those people. It can be kind of fun even.
 
You may even find yourself daydreaming and wondering when you’ll get to the point when you can finally get help.
 
But sometimes this alone phase can last awhile.

 So – do you wait until you can hire to launch something?

It’s kind of feels like the chicken or the egg… do you need to hire a team in order to launch? But wait – don’t you need to launch in order to hire?
 
And it doesn’t help knowing everyone’s always talking about the benefit of outsourcing, building a good team and nurturing them as you grow your company (me included by the way).
 
But how do you navigate that period of time BEFORE you are ready, prepared and have the resources to hire?

Many members of Fearless Launching have been asking about quizzes. Today’s show is all about quizzes and how to use them, create them, and incorporate them into a launch. I have recently seen online quizzes and online assessments used as part of some amazing launches, so it will be great to learn more.

Today’s guest is Josh Haynam from the the online quiz platform Interact. I have been taking quizzes as long as I can remember, and they are something that everyone can and should incorporate into their business and their launch or the lead up to their launch. Josh shares how Interact got started, what it is, and how everyone can incorporate quizzes into their online business.

Do you ever feel like you are struggling to reach the right people and the right amount of eyes. Making sales can be a struggle. Teaching what you do is one thing, but seeing where you actually need to improve is sometimes more difficult. If you want to improve the impact of the things that you are putting out into the world and get people to look at your product and buy from you, all you have to do is tell stories.

Stories are so important for getting your point across and showing why your product is unique, special and relevant to the buyer. Today, I am going to talk about six stories that you need to share before anyone buys from you. You don’t have to tell all six, and I’m not going to tell you what to say, but these are things that your customers need to hear before buying from you.

It’s been awhile since I have talked about tools. Last week when I talked about underrated communication triggers, I mentioned a few tools that I was testing out and received a number of questions about those tools. So today, I am going to talk about tools that can help you make your communication more consistent without having the added stress of wondering what to say and when to say it.

One of the things that is so important is responding and creating that first touch. We aren’t always ready and waiting in front of the computer, so it is important to automate that first response. It’s also easy to get lost and lose track of all of the forms of social and other communication so having scheduling tools in place creates organization and consistency. Time management and batching go together, so I also talk about tools that allow work to be done in advance.

I am back after my move to Los Angeles. I am super excited to get back into it, and we have some really interesting episodes coming up. As we move into September, I know a lot of you are planning your launches right now. There is something about the fall that kind of feels like a new year with everyone planning their fourth quarters and new launches. Now is the time to get started in order to do the type of launch that you want to do.

We all know how important communication is. It can really help any part of your life or business. This is also a timely topic for me because I am creating a new beta program that focuses on communication and the type of communication that is necessary to have a successful launch. Today, I’m going to talk about four communication triggers that we all take for granted but are crucial for a successful launch.

[04:51] Adding a personal touch. The more often that we are the ones responding to people personally, the more they feel that we are speaking to them individually.

[07:07] Using a chatbot like ManyChat to respond to people right away especially on Facebook Messenger.

[10:48] People need a deadline in order to make a decision. Deadline funnel is a great tool for deadlines after sign ups.

[12:16] Deadlines, scarcity, and letting people know about deadlines helps people to make decisions.

[13:54] Consistency. The consistency of us showing up for our launch. It builds trust and reminds people that we are here for them.

[16:12] People count on publish dates it keeps them motivated and inspired.

[21:49] Tell your audience what to do.
[22:18] Use a personal touch and speak to your audience and be direct about what they need to do and when they need to do it. This shows you are willing to push them and teach them.

There is a lot at stake when launching a new business venture. Entrepreneurs have a lot on the line including time, money, and emotions. Today, I’m going to do something a little different and talk about the darker side of launching. Understanding some of the more daunting things that can happen during a launch and knowing how to deal with them should make the challenge a little easier.

I talk about four of these challenges that can happen during a launch and how to approach each of these things. During a launch, you can experience a roller coaster of emotions, stress, and any number of issues that could affect your health, bank account, confidence, and motivation. [05:47] James first online business was an online bartending school. He would learn something and then teach it.
[06:24] James is most known for teaching You Tube and video marketing.
[06:50] He also went to film school, so this powerful medium was a great subject.

[36:35] How it is not bad to feel pressure to create an amazing product that adds value and more.

[41:14] Teaching is the transference of knowledge, but a coaching enables you to put that knowledge into practice through experience and action.

[43:49] People can be transformed through a launch without buying.

[45:41] Leaving an impact either way.

[47:07] How discoveries and breakthroughs come through action and experience.
[47:39] Having an absolute commitment and supporting a breakthrough year.

[49:18] Seeing each client as perfect. Nothing is wrong or broken.

[50:16] Speak to the higher part that is flawless and not mired in self-doubt.

[51:21] Detaching from yourself and your role. Don't say things to sound smart of look good. It's OK to say you don't know.
[52:32] As a coach, never rob your students of a lesson.

[53:27] Our answers have way less impact than if the student comes up with it themselves. Ask better questions.

[55:55] Entrepreneurs do not need permission unless you give it to yourself in the form of validation.

[01:02:16] Being a coach is about getting things more clear than they were before. Clarity, action, results.

Natasha is a consultant and systems strategist who creates systems for growth oriented businesses. She is the woman behind Systems Rock where she helps clients establish systems for completing tasks with ease, marketing consistently, and onboarding effectively. Her past focus was on solo business owners, but now she focuses on businesses with small teams and helping the teams and the businesses grow.

We talk about having business systems in place and providing structure to allow team members to do their jobs effectively. We also talk about being an impact amplifier by amplifying the impact of each team member, so that the businesses impact is strengthened as it grows. [03:17] Natasha was in my very first Fearless Launching community. She is a woman who has her systems down.

[05:06] Natasha is a systems specialist and architect. Until recently she has been working for solo business owners.

[06:00] A few months ago she shifted her focus from solo business owners to business owners with small teams.

[06:51] As teams grow, the old ways of doing things stop working. Owners need to communicate as a team so that they aren't the bottleneck of their business.

[07:40] Natasha is an impact amplifier by allowing business owners to amplify the impact of every team member.

[08:14] How impact gets diluted without systems and structures in place. It holds people back and doesn't allow them to do the work that they can do.

[10:37] The evolution of her Systemic Success program prompted Natasha to begin focusing on teams and business growth.

[12:31] Owners with larger teams had a different set of challenges.

[13:54] Working with the larger and growing teams allows Natasha to have a greater impact.

[14:28] Her systems create an environment to enable teams to perform their best.

[15:41] Her clients may have something in the way that allows team members to reach and perform at their potential.

[16:45] Clients don't want to go through the hiring and firing process until they find a mind reader. This is where systems come into play.

[18:09] Natasha works with clients who have teams one-on-one and with their teams.

[22:05] Teaching business owners how to get out of the way of the team members. Having systems to support the team.

[22:53] Using proper document and project management tools. Allowing the business owner to step back and let things get done.

[25:16] Problems with implementing systems and an adjustment period to trust the system and handle the new free time.

[29:38] Establishing time management and balancing systems when starting out.

[30:15] As the business grows there will be client facing systems and relationship building and marketing systems.

[31:20] The last piece is the systems for the team such as communication, leadership, and teamwork.

[33:58] The magical number of three. When you triple your team you need to inspect your systems. After adding 3, 10, 30, or 100 people, you need to restructure your systems.

[39:07] Create systems for things you repeat in order to not waste time doing the same thing over and over.

[46:37] Communicate your vision so that your team will own it.
