You own a business.

Maybe you have a team. Maybe you don’t.

If you’re making money from your business, you’ve got customers.

With all the challenges of running an online business the biggest one I can think of where people get in trouble and the reason why your business goes downhill are those related to your leadership skills.

So, if you have a business, plan to make money, want to build a community, and perhaps eventually have a team to help you run everything, then you are on the path to becoming a leader.

...Whether you like it or not.

That said, many people start businesses without having much practical experience in a leadership role anywhere in their life.

We’re thrown into the role of boss without a day behind the wheel ever!

So today’s episode covers some of the things you need to consider and be aware of as you set off to start, finish, deliver, launch...and take very intentional action every single day.

If you’re building an online business, then you’ve likely seen or heard that upgrading to an email marketing provider or system is a must in order start making the big bucks.

Who knows why people actually believe that, but there are some really good reasons why you might want to switch to a more customizable marketing system.

But before we talk about my switch to Infusionsoft about 2 years ago, I want to make sure you know my stance on upgrading tools...

They are often not necessary or critical until they no longer work. I never suggest an upgrade or a tool/system change unless it’s going to revolutionize or fix a part of the business. And I definitely say no to upgrades that require you to move your entire list or marketing funnel right before a launch.

So knowing this, you may think my move to Infusionsoft was unnecessary, but the change falls under the “this revolutionized” my workflow and productivity. Plus, I did it at a time when a launch wasn’t imminent.

In this episode, you’ll learn:

  1. What led to my decision to switch email marketing providers

  2. Why Aweber no longer worked for me

  3. The main reasons I knew Infusionsoft was right for me

  4. Specific reasons and features that have kept me a customer.

Today's episode is my updated perspective on whether you should have a hard launch close date or stay open (offering your product or service indefinitely).

You'll learn:

  • Benefits of having a hard close date
  • Benefits of keeping the doors open
  • Why having a mix of products that close or stay open could be the best thing to do for your business.
  • How to know what is right for your audience

Today's episode is all about how Fearless Launching has changed over the past 3 years...and how you might expect to update, grow, and evolve your own products and services.

In this episode I cover the 9 main areas where the products and launches have changed over time. You'll see that my first launch of the program really was a minimum viable launch from top to bottom...and that's what I encourage you to do.

Today’s episode of the podcast, I’m going to share the 4 things many people are missing from their business and need to get rolling before they are ready to start planning their launch.

Some of the topics I cover:

  • 4 things that I always come back to when I’m having an “I don’t know what to focus on moment” in my business
  • Why consistent communication is only part of the equation
  • One system that should be in place the second you put your blog or website live
  • How communication must be happening first before you get
  • Your monthly task list to make sure you're ready to launch whenever you want
  • How to avoid loading your launch workload with a ton of writing
  • How you can borrow other people’s engaged audiences, but you should never depend on that

Want a chance to win a scholarship for the next round of Fearless Launching (starting on May 18th)???

Raise your hand if you wish your email list was bigger?

I’m fairly certain almost everyone feels this way at pretty common intervals in their business. Logic tells us that a bigger list is in our favor to generate more sales, more clients, more people - more money.

And to some extent this is true. One way to increase revenue is to serve more people.

But is email the only way to reach more people?

My guest today has been in business a very short time, but she’s been building an audience since 2009.  No email list in the traditional sense.

Alexis Giostra (a.k.a. MissTrenchcoat) has built a thriving community that tells her every single week what they want in the comments on her YouTube Channel.

Not only that, she’s used the platform along with her other social media main squeeze to sell digital products and even launch her recent coaching program using nothing but these two platforms.

Sounds intriguing right?

If you’ve ever felt like you had no one to launch to or that you just weren’t into email marketing...well, you’ll love my interview with Alexis.

I’m pretty sure today’s guest and I are sisters separated at birth. She is all about helping people find and embrace their expertise...and figure out how to turn that into a profitable course. But more than that, my guest Jeanine Blackwell seems to be this amazing combination of support, strategy, and tactical execution.

See - literally, I keep saying, wait that’s me too!

Jeanine’s in the middle of a launch right now and she sat down to talk about figuring out what you should offer whether it’s your first, second, or third time out of the gate.

She asks the tough questions that you probably haven’t thought of or taken a step back to think about.

Are you avoiding one area of true expertise? What question does your course answer? What’s something your ideal customer will actually pay to solve?

We get into a whole bunch of topics including:

  • How to find your best offers?
  • What to do before jumping into the launch?
  • How to stop circling around your expertise and use it to create a course
  • Why we’re all somewhat unconscious of our competence in certain areas
  • What it takes to get your expertise & brilliance into the world
  • How to fight your natural inclination to diminish your gifts
  • How to find clarity and figure out where your sellable expertise lives
  • The only offers that get through the static of all the offers we see online
  • Why you should re-think giving people what they need
  • Why figuring out HOW your audience talks is just half of the equation
  • Some of the big mistakes to creating a course

And so much more!

Look around at businesses online and offline - and it feels like some brands and companies are launching all the time.

But while you might see Starbucks, LuckyBrand Jeans and Kate Spade sending multiple “sales” emails every week… how much is too much when it comes to launching?

Should you launch all the time? Only every 6 months? Perhaps once a quarter?

And what exactly can you launch each time?

Today’s episode is a totally new style and feature this podcast recorded in my kitchen while I paced back and forth speaking into my iPhone.

I’ll be honest, there was another show in this slot today but I just had to get this question answered because it seems like I’ve been hearing people struggle to understand or figure out how to pace their launches.

In this episode, I share the primary tools I use for every phase of content creation -- whether it's for my blog, this podcast, my new channel on Youtube...coming up with the easiest tool set up is crucial to make sure I can get it all done!

Are you in the habit of launching fast or at the last minute? Not a great habit, but if you're going to do it, here are three ways to make sure they are possible and profitable.

I sat down with business systems expert Val Geisler to see if we could find a new way to look at systems and maybe make the topic a little more appealing--especially to those of who are artists underneath it all.

We get into a whole bunch of topics including:

  • Why even though Val is a huge fan of beautiful things...she lets functional win when necessary.
  • 85% of Val’s decision making surrounds this one thing when choosing a tool in her business
  • What the “5 love languages” has to do with building systems and Val’s business
  • The main reason why you should you focus on your systems before you launch.
  • Val’s everyday system setup - the tools she goes back to again and again.
  • A sweet google mail hack that I should have known but did not!
  • The systems that usually need the most help for the majority of entrepreneurs.
  • Questions you need to keep asking yourself as your business evolves…
  • A surprising huge mistake that many new business owners are making - this one was shocking to me!
  • Thoughts on straddling two email service providers - why you’d do it, what are the challenges, and what are some other reasons you might do it!
  • Her secret to feeling more confident in her business...it’s a person we both know and love.
  • our shared mantra and tweetable...about following blueprints and making systems.

Last week we talked about how the work changes and doesn't change when you launch and relaunch your products and services. So, this week, I wanted to dive into the timeline of a launch. I'm always getting asked, okay what should I do next if I'm launching [insert date]? Listen to this new perspective on the timeline that might have you breathing a sigh of relief.

Episode 39 is a great place to go next after you listen to this one...because Marie shares a behind the scenes look at some of their timeline!

One of the most frequently asked questions I get is when and how to start telling people about their product launch... How long before a product or service is available do you start leaking it out to people? This episode updates you on my launch leaking strategy...and I think you'll like it because it's au naturale!

They struggled for years and years trying to make the side hustle their main thing work -- to get the chance to finally do what they were passionate about.

That story is a common one in some for one or another for many entrepreneurs...even me! That side hustle keeps you ignited because you push, you struggle, you create, whatever it is… but it propels you forward.

What happens when you get out of that phase of needing a side hustle - when it becomes a full time hustle?

Today's episode covers this topic and more as I explore -

  • why having a side hustle is important to most creative entrepreneurs
  • how starting passion projects can inject your business with renewed energy
  • gives your brain much needed break from your main business pursuit

And I also share three people who inspired me to start some side projects myself!

If there’s anything I know helps me improve and grow my business, it’s establishing better work habits. There’s only so many weeks I can wait until the last second to record a podcast, publish it, write the notes and get it up there in less than 24 hours.

I’ve got a 6 year old and a slightly short attention span.

And at the same time - I’ve got big goals. One of those was to make sure that I could commit to having a weekly podcast. Not every other week or every third week.

So, that’s what I dive into today in this shorter episode about how I got my podcast process back on track.

In this episode I also talk about:

  • The real reason I ended up skipping blogging for 2 months

  • Results of some of my blogging and podcast tests throughout 2014

  • How I plan to get all my publishing content

  • The simple question you can ask yourself about all that content you’re publishing

  • How I’m making the process even easier for myself

  • What happens when you finally have focus + establish a habit

  • Why I’m always evaluating what’s working and what’s not

Okay - let’s do this!
