Does this sound familiar?

If you’re an online entrepreneur, you’re likely thinking about growing your email list, getting more traffic, building your platform, finding the right social media strategy…

And all of these have one thing in common.

You’re just looking to reach and connect with more real people.

It’s so easy to forget that last part - the real people.

And in our quest for automation, we even forget that there’s a more direct, often more powerful way to “engage” and “interact” with our ideal customers and potential partners.

In PERSON.

Today’s guest is a short and documentary filmmaker who is building her audience and community by going back these basics…

So, if you’re struggling to build your audience or automate all the things...how about you take a break from that and get a much needed reminder (like I did) of how important it is to BE with your peeps.

Has this ever happened to you?

You finally set the date you’re going to unveil your product, your course, maybe your first online program to the world.

Feeling so ready do this.

But then the date comes and goes… so you push it back for real.

And then you keep pushing back the date.

Not just once. But twice. Maybe three times.

Now, there could be a real unavoidable reason for this and there often is, but it’s also possible something deeper is going on.

I’m curious about something...

Actually a few things...

  • Are you a planner?
  • Do you plan things out, check off the boxes, and never miss a step?
  • Do you like to map out broad strokes without a ton of detail?
  • Do you find yourself taking action on something every single day?
  • Are there days/weeks/months in between your action (especially as it relates to what you want to launch)?
  • Do you often postpone your launches?
  • Have you never launched because you weren’t sure what to do first?

So, you don’t actually have to tell me the answers to these questions (unless you want to), do it for yourself.

Today’s 200th episode is one that dives in deep to how you can get better at not just planning (your launches, your life, your business), but how to get better at following, DOING, and completing the plan.

It sounds like the dream scenario.

You build a small service based business, get so busy that your business is bursting at the seams…within a year you're at the six figure mark…and then within three years a simple shift in what you offer to your clients lands you with a seven figure business…

Sounds amazing, right?

Today's guest talks about her journey from starting an online business to now being a sought after Facebook Ads agency (but really, she does so much more).

You're going to love getting to know Emily Hirsh. Not only is her story full of lessons to consider as you grow your business, but she also drops some knowledge about running effective Facebook Ads campaigns.

Are you ready?

Have you ever thought of creating a subscription box business?

Whether you’re an online business owner, a course creator, a physical business owner - offering a subscription box is a great way to add a high touch offering and one that brings in recurring revenue.

Today’s guest has built her own stationary and card subscription-based business from scratch.

She runs it mostly on her own. She curates the contents of each box, assembles all the boxes, ships everything too! Has two different types of boxes people can order and creates a beautiful experience no matter which one you choose!

So, if you’re interested in starting a new business, looking for a way to add a new type of offering to whatever you’re already doing, listen to my conversation with Danielle Nelson of Pretty By Post.

Would you believe that self-awareness is your biggest (and often hidden) business super power?

How well do you know yourself? I don’t mean your likes, dislikes, dreams or your life story, but really do you know what makes you tick?

Today’s guest went on a journey to really figure out what made her tick in her business, how to avoid duplicating past negative workplace practices she’d experienced...and it led her to the Enneagram.

If you love personality tests of any kind, know your Myers Briggs type, your Strengthsfinder themes, then you’ll love today’s conversation with Kelsey Chapman.

Let’s get real.

Sometimes it’s hard to know if you’re making progress on your business.

You show up week after week - publish the podcast, write the newsletter, host the webinar.

And even when you see more people paying attention, more likes, more people opt-in...it can feel a bit unclear.

Are you going in the right direction?

Are you saying and doing the right things?

Over the years I’ve seen many people beat themselves up for not being where they should be or being behind, I knew it was time to stop and share the story of a woman I’ve watched grow over the past several years.

When we dissected her journey, the things she’s accomplished, we could see plain as day how progress was happening all along - even in the “not big enough” moments that could have escaped her -- if she hadn’t been paying attention.

The last time our guest was on the show, I received more emails than I expected...

I think people really connected with the idea of clutter and how it affects our daily life.

JoAnn Krall teaches entrepreneurs and regular ‘ole peeps who are doing various things in the world, how to organize their homes, businesses, and life. But today we’re talking about a problem that is near and dear to the hearts of anyone building a business online.

Information overload--in the form of paper or digital clutter.

How many of us can relate to the first days/months of learning how to start a blog, set up your Facebook Page, set up your business...and all those pdf downloads. Check your downloads folder on your computer now - and come clean with me.

How full is it and what’s in there?

Today I wanted to rant a bit about a question I think hits the core of why most people get stuck on launching… They aren’t clear on what comes first. Is it the product? Is it the people? Or is it the process?

Today’s episode is going to be short - I think.

We’re going to talk about a topic I think we all need to be reminded of… a question really…

What comes first - the product, the people or the process? Or rather, what comes first the what, the who, or the how we’re going to do it?

First - I’ll rant a bit on the answer. Then, I’ll go over what to do no matter which one you’ve “got”.

What is it email segmentation? Why should you use it? How to get started using it on your next launch?

That’s what we’re talking about on today’s episode of the podcast.

If you have an online business, or you’ve spent any time in the online world at all, then you’ve likely heard about the power of email marketing…you may have even heard of email segmentation.

And here’s why it’s so important…

Segmenting your email list is the best way to personalize the experience for each person in your audience.

But this isn’t just a launch strategy...

Quick question for you…

Did you know that some of the most powerful launch strategies are ones you can pull off even if you are launching for the very first time?

Today’s episode dives into two strategies you can use that - don’t require a ton of technical knowledge or built in audience...AND can be built out as your business grows!

These strategies can be used together or separately to help you - build your audience, gain attention leading up to your launch, help you spread the word about what you’re launching, and then convert people into buyers.

Let’s dive in.

It doesn't surprise me...

Depending on your business - you want more clients, or a better launch, or a more streamlined business.

Here's the thing.

You know all those things we learn and promptly ignore about business, when we’re getting started?

Like being specific, talking to one person, giving yourself time, understanding who your audience is and creating what they want?

They work and today’s guest has learned all of this and so much more of the past few years AND she's willing to share the journey with us today!

Meghan of CraftingCreative.com is someone I’ve had the honor to work with over the past year inside one of my programs The Message Lab

I begged her to come on the podcast for a few reasons...The most important being that she’s got some solid advice on how to make your website speak loud and clear for you...Plus, she’s willing to share her own story and exactly what she’s done to make her own website do its job much better - and help her reach more of the right people and get more clients without doing tons of clarity sessions or consulting calls.

So, if you’re focusing on getting more people to your site, sign up for your mailing list or buy more products or work with you - you’ll definitely want to tune in today!

Are you an artist or creative entrepreneur?

If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed, overworked, no time to create art, or do that thing your passionate about - it could be as simple as creating a few key systems in your business.

Now on the surface, the word systems might make your eyes glaze over. Systems definitely don’t immediately bring to mind creativity or flow…

But this week, my guest shares how she’s gained more time in her studio, painting, creating jewelry, coming up with new ideas… and it’s all because she found ways to create systems in her business.

Not a ton...just a few key ones that get the busy work of business off her plate quickly.

So, if whether you’d like more time in the studio creating art -- or maybe even just more time to yourself doing another activity, today’s episode is for you…

We often hear from people that we need to be consistently publishing content to our community in order to build trust.

But how much is enough?

Can we be consistent in some areas and then a little bit more fluid in others?

What happens when we go off the grid EVERYWHERE?

Are we damaging our businesses and brands by not being consistent?

That’s what we’re talking about on today’s episode.

I’m not going to lie. I love analogies and puns. That’s why this week, I’m taking you into my brain to look at something I’m calling the “Layer Cake Launch Strategy”...

I think we’d all agree that launches have become multi-layered and often include one main launch strategy, surrounded by other LAYERS of social marketing.

In today’s episode here’s what we cover:

  • What’s the most important thing to figure out where right now about your business before you launch
  • Why committing to a small number of social marketing activities leading up to your launch can dramatically increase the success of you any launch--your business, a new product, a rebranded blog, a coaching service or program.
  • Why the long game and where you want to go should be your main concern…
How to get started creating your first layers now so you can find out what works
  • My favorite social platform and why I think it’s the best no matter what you end up using for your launches.
  • The final element to each layer you need to create before adding another one!
  • How long you should give yourself to test the effectiveness of a layer before moving on to the next tool, social platform or channel.

Communication challenges are something we all face in business from time to time, especially if we offer products & services to our audience.

The problem is simple.

We believe we’re not saying the right things to the right people at the right time or in the right way.

It always comes back to that!

In today’s episode, we’re going to walk through the 5 most common launch communication challenges, why they are happening and a few ways to lean in and handle them!

You’ll want to pay close attention to each challenge - once you identify where you struggle the most, you’ll be able to make some easy corrections and changes…

What’s the most challenging part of putting a launch together? For me, it’s the sales page.

I love getting to know my audience, talking to each person one on one, really digging into what’s challenging each person. I LOVE connecting with people.

And yet - when I sit down to write the sales page for my online courses, I often freeze.

The blank page stares back at me literally challenging me to sound like a weirdo and show my true colors to the world.

Now, even though I have years of knowing my message and going through the process of writing sales page, this is the one thing that comes up every time I’m about to launch.

So - I’m bringing in the expert, because many of you have also reached out to me asking how a non-copywriter can create powerful sales messages.

Today’s guest is Christine Blubaugh - a sales copywriter who works with creative entrepreneurs, coaches, and course creators.

Are you on online course or digital product creator?

If so, then listen up.

We all know that people aren’t finishing online courses. They are buying and buying and buying, but rarely getting through your content.

So, if you’ve ever wondered why people shell out their hard earned cash, seem really gung ho, but then either disappear after a few weeks of being hot & heavy in your Facebook group, you gotta listen to today’s episode.

Now there’s a lot of reasons this could be happening. And today we’re going to dive into this epidemic and come up with talk about the things you have control over and the things you don’t!

You are so ready for this.

The dates are on the calendar. Team has been hired. Pages are being designed and developed. Everything is moving forward - and you feel great. Confident that you’ve thought of everything to make next launch a success.

You planned it out. Took the time. Talked to your ideal customers.

One of the best things you can do for yourself right now is to ask - Have I missed anything? Do I have all the information I need?

After years of working on launches of all sizes, I’ve seen steps get missed that impact the entire launch. These aren’t necessarily mistakes, but they do effect how smoothly things are running...and are often discovered after the doors are open--when things are a little harder to fix.

Today we’re talking about 5 key steps that are so easy to miss because we don’t see them as steps in the launch planning process.

A few years ago I shared how I like to do two big reviews of my business. One mid-year business review and one at the end of the year.

Whether you’re just getting started in your business or you’ve been up and running for years, this one of those times when you get to reflect, pause and then make decisions about the next 3-6 months.

They can be invaluable to your growth. The more aware you are of what’s working, what’s not, what you said you were going to do vs. what you didn’t do...and what you ended up bringing

How has this year been going for you?

Are you happy with your progress so far? And is your business growing?

Because what our guest this week did has simplified her offerings, given her a clear ongoing marketing focus, and has allowed her to really connect and help her customers.

Now her business fits her life and has given her room to daydream about other projects if she wants to add them in.
